When you’re the No. 1 team in the country more often than not, you get some pretty cool opportunities to appear in national showcases.

That’s been the case with Alabama in recent years, as the Crimson Tide have gotten to play at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, the Georgia Dome in Atlanta and, this year, in the first-ever game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

However, coach Nick Saban said he’d like to see a couple more big-name opponents come to Tuscaloosa so the Crimson Tide can play in front of their home fans one more time a year (via AL.com):

“I would like to do that,” Saban said. “We played Penn State home-and-home when I was here. And it was a good game here. It was a good game there. Great crowd and all that. It’s better for our fans if we play at home. I get that. But playing in these sort of games has helped us to play a better team, even though it’s at a neutral site, and it gained tremendous exposure for the program early on.

“But Greg Byrne and I met about doing this in the future where we have some home-and-homes with some teams every now and then so we’re not always playing in one of these neutral-site games to start the season.”

A home-and-home series against a non-conference Power 5 school likely won’t happen for a few more years at least, though, as Alabama plays Louisville in Orlando to start the 2018 season and kicks off the 2019 season against Duke in Atlanta.

The Crimson Tide are also scheduled to open the 2021 season in Atlanta against Miami. However, they still have Week 1 of the 2020 season available, so perhaps a home-and-home series for 2020 and 2022 could be set up with a big-name school.
