Following Vanderbilt’s big Week 3 home victory over a ranked Kansas State team, the Commodores were feeling good about themselves.

However, they fell into a classic trap, deciding to call out No. 1 Alabama in the aftermath of their big win.

The result? A 59-0 beatdown at the hands of the No. 1 Crimson Tide, who clearly wanted to make a statement with their dominant performance.

According to AL.com, QB Jalen Hurts said Saturday’s game was about showing the country what Alabama football was all about:

“With Alabama, we want to be respected,” Hurts said. “I guess we felt like we didn’t have the kind of respect we wanted leading into the game. So, we came out and tried to play Alabama football.”

RB Bo Scarbrough added that it was important to him and his teammates to completely run the Commodores off the field:

“I heard one of the guys say a word like he didn’t even want to play anymore,” Scarbrough said. “But we wanted to keep our foot on the pedal and keep gassing them on every play and every down.”

It’s safe to say they did just that, as their 59-0 win will get a lot of critics off their backs. If Ole Miss (Alabama’s Week 5 opponent) knows what’s good for it, we won’t be hearing any trash talk coming out of Oxford this week.
