Tennessee head coach Butch Jones met with the media Monday for his first press conference of Georgia week. Considering the gravity of this game with the Vols sitting at 0-1 in the SEC, Saturday’s game very well could be a season-defining game for this team.

To get a win against a Top 10 team for the first time under Jones, the Vols will need all the help they can get from players that have missed team early this season.

Here’s a recap of what Jones had to say during his Monday presser:

  • Thoughts on the quarterbacks coming out of UMass game? “There’s more that goes on there than the average person realizes,” Jones said. Players around them, etc. “Quinten did some nice things. Every game is a learning experience for both Dormady and Jarrett Guarantano. Those 11 snaps we got Jarrett were invaluable. For the most part, I was pleased (with what I saw). We cannot be a one-dimensional team, we have to run the ball.”
  • on Jashon Robertson and Shy Tuttle: “Fully anticipate them being ready to go for Georgia.
  • Does the QB need to run more in your offense? There are so many ways to involve the QB, zone read, RPO. Sometimes he needs to keep the football, there’s read progression on some plays.
  • on Shaq Wiggins: I was really pleased with Shaq. He had a whole new mindset and every day he approached it like a gameday. I was really, really pleased with Shaq.”
  • Evan Berry status? “He will be out for Georgia.”
  • Status of Jauan Jennings? “You guys look for everything,” Jones joked. “He’s in the building every day. He does a great job with recovery. He’s very competitive. It bothers him to be on the sideline knowing he can’t help this football team. That’s his decision. I don’t want to make it worse. The way he’s wired, he wants to go out there and do it. He’s doing everything he can to get back.”
