Barring a transfer, the Georgia Bulldogs will have three 5-star quarterbacks on the roster next year in Jacob Eason, Jake Fromm and Justin Fields.

Fields, the No. 1 player in the 2018 recruiting class, committed to Georgia last week, surprising many who wondered why he’d go to a school with a pair of talented young quarterbacks ahead of him.

However, on ESPNU Radio on SiriusXM on Tuesday, Fields said he wasn’t going to base a college decision around something as trivial as that team’s current depth chart:

“When choosing a college, you can’t really worry about who is in front of you or who has played before you,” Fields said. “I am not afraid to compete against anyone. Competition can only make you better. Iron sharpens iron. My goal is just to go in there, compete my butt off, and work hard.”

Considering the culture of college football today, where players transfer on a whim if they don’t get enough playing time, it’s refreshing to hear Fields have this attitude.

Whether he keeps the same positive outlook if he has to sit on the bench next year remains to be seen, but for now, he’s saying all the right things.
