While the status of several Alabama linebackers looms large for next week’s Iron Bowl showdown, perhaps the one defender the Crimson Tide could least afford to be without is defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick. The star junior missed Saturday’s game against Mercer to rest his hamstring.

Fitzpatrick initially injured his hamstring against LSU on Nov. 4. While he returned to that game, he was not at 100 percent during the contest after sustaining his injury.

Following Alabama’s 56-0 win over Mercer, Nick Saban was asked about Fitzpatrick’s availability for the trip to Auburn. Saban remains “hopeful” the defensive back can make a return to the field next weekend.

Fitzpatrick was a Freshman All-American two years ago and was a national All-American last season. Expect him to garner those honors once again at the end of this season.
