When it comes to coaching searches, the Tennessee Volunteers made an absolute mess of theirs on Sunday, reportedly signing Ohio State DC Greg Schiano to a deal before that fell apart due to backlash from Vol Nation.

Now, the Vols are left scrambling to find a replacement and may even owe Schiano some money despite the fact that he was only the Tennessee coach for a couple of hours.

According to Tennessee insider John Brice of Gridiron Now, the Vols have reached out to two new candidates in the wake of the Schiano debacle:

A source with first-hand knowledge said Tennessee has contacted Purdue coach Jeff Brohm, as well as Southern Cal offensive coordinator Tee Martin.

Would either of those guys even want the job after Sunday’s craziness? That remains to be seen, but at least Martin has ties to the program, having led the Vols to a national championship during his playing career.

Also of note, Iowa State coach Matt Campbell, who was at one point reportedly a target of Tennessee’s, is no longer in the mix for the position, according to Yahoo! Sports reporter Pete Thamel:

Where the Vols go from here remains to be seen, but things are an absolute mess in Knoxville right now.
