The NCAA came down hard on Ole Miss on Friday morning, issuing a two-year bowl ban and scholarship restrictions, among other penalties, for the school’s recruiting violations.

In addition to those university penalties, coaches involved in the scandal were given show-cause penalties as well.

According to ESPN’s Mark Schlabach, former Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze was given a one-year penalty from the NCAA:

According to an SB Nation report, former assistants David Saunders and Barney Farrar were hit much harder, with Saunders’ show-cause running for eight years and Farrar’s running for five.

The NCAA made it clear it wasn’t messing around with these penalties, so it’ll be interesting to see how the Rebels rebound from them.

Interestingly, Freeze is free to take a coordinator or another assistant position with no penalty, as the show-cause only applies to head coaching jobs.
