It appears Chad Morris to Arkansas is a done deal.

According to ESPN’s SEC insider Chris Low, Arkansas and Morris have agreed to a deal. Low expects the decision to be announced Wednesday. Arkansas is currently introducing AD Hunter Yurachek, who was officially hired Monday.

Arkansas has now confirmed the hire, Morris will lead the Razorbacks in 2018.

Here’s Low’s tweet announcing the news:

There’s been speculation that Morris will target Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables to run the defense in Fayetteville. Considering Venables won the Frank Broyles Award last season, given annually to the nation’s best assistant coach, and has the Tigers’ defense annually among the best in the nation, the hire would be an absolute home run for the Hogs.

While that move may seem unrealistic to many, the bond between Morris and Venables is said to be incredibly tight. Morris helped Venables land at Clemson, and the defensive coordinator bought Morris’ home when he left Clemson for SMU.

Morris had a 14-22 record in three seasons at SMU but improved the program’s record every single season. He took the program from having arguably the worst offense in the nation to having the No. 8 scoring offense in the nation this season. He accomplished similar progress at Clemson, taking the Tigers from the ACC’s No. 10 scoring offense to No. 2 in his first year, No. 1 in his second and No. 2 once again in his third season.

Morris is also responsible for identifying a young Georgia quarterback named Deshaun Watson. Form a relationship early with Watson led the best QB in Clemson history going to the school over in-state Georgia later in the recruiting process when Mark Richt and company put on a full-court press.

Perhaps the most important aspect of hiring Morris, a former Texas state championship-winning high school coach, is his ties to the Lone Star State. Arkansas now has a coach that is not only familiar with the talent-rich state but has the relationships necessary to help the Razorbacks get a foothold back in the state.
