The Auburn Tigers are having a magical year, with coach Bruce Pearl and the men’s basketball squad leading the SEC with an 11-2 conference record and a 23-3 overall mark.

However, the cloud of an FBI investigation, as well as an internal investigation, looms large over the program.

On Saturday morning, Pearl joined ESPN’s College GameDay to discuss the situation with the FBI. Assistant coach Chuck Person was arrested in the FBI probe, and Pearl said he was stunned to learn about that:

“Chuck called me that morning and told me briefly what had happened and I was shocked,” he said. “Unfortunately, Chuck’s fired and I have two assistants put on administrative leave.”

Pearl hasn’t cooperated much with the internal investigation into the program, but he said he thinks he’s done enough to keep his job:

“We’ve complied enough to still be here,” he said. “I wouldn’t be here coaching if there were greater problems.”

What happens next with the Tigers remains to be seen, but it’s likely we haven’t heard the last from the investigation into Pearl and the Auburn squad.
