Despite being on the radio early Monday morning, Paul Finebaum came out firing when asked about his thoughts on the first two rounds of the 2018 NCAA Tournament.

Before jumping on the dreadful performance of Bruce Pearl’s Auburn program, the Tigers lost to Clemson by a whopping 84-53 margin Sunday evening, Finebaum joked about John Calipari complaining about Kentucky’s seeding heading into the tournament on his weekly Monday morning appearance on WJOX 94.5 FM radio show The Roundtable.

Despite Calipari’s whining entering the tournament, it’s possible Kentucky won’t have a team seeded lower than a #7 seed until the Final Four.

“I don’t even know what this is comparable to — maybe Alabama playing Wake Forest in the semifinals in football,” Finebaum said on the air. “It’s really inconceivable. I’ve never seen anyone have an easier path.”

The SEC Network host was then asked about Alabama and Auburn. Which program’s momentum does he feel better about as both teams exit the tournament over the weekend?

“I’m going to increase my position in Avery Johnson. I’m not buying any stock in Bruce Pearl’s future. I just don’t know where it goes, because I don’t know. I don’t know what the school is thinking. I don’t know what the new athletic director is thinking,” he continued.

“I will say as you win and you advance in the NCAA Tournament, sometimes administrators have been known to look past whatever issues are out there but after losing by 18 or 19 in the SEC (Tournament) against Alabama and that horror show last night in San Diego (against Clemson), I don’t think that’s going to be a factor here. I think Bruce Pearl will be judged by the merits of what he did or didn’t do.

“I don’t remember when I’ve seen a more embarrassing NCAA performance than the one we saw last night.”
