When John Currie went into scramble mode after his ill-fated attempt to hire Greg Schiano fell thru, many Tennessee fans clamoured for Lane Kiffin to get the job. Now that we have Currie’s text message log from last December, we know hundreds, if not thousands, of Tennessee fans begged the former Tennessee AD to consider the FAU coach.

While he didn’t get any consideration for the position, the way Kiffin tells it, the Volunteer program is in excellent hands with Jeremy Pruitt leading the program.

After working with Pruitt in Tuscaloosa in 2016, Kiffin was the offensive coordinator matched up against defensive coordinator Pruitt on a daily basis at Alabama practice, the FAU coach has some high expectations for what the Tennessee coach is capable of doing in Knoxville.

During a recent appearance on Nashville radio station ESPN 102.5’s Morning Drive program, Kiffin offered up these thoughts on Pruitt’s hire at Tennessee.

“Jeremy’s going to do a great job there. I would not be shocked if it’s not going to be just like Georgia. Looking at Tennessee back in the Top 10 within two years and making a Playoff run,” Kiffin said.

He went on to note how Pruitt’s recruiting ability and previous coaching experience make for a unique combination that should produce fantastic results on Rocky Top.

“Phenomenal recruiter, arguably the best defensive coordinator in all of college football and a great teacher. He was a high school coach, anytime that you have to teach guys at that level, you don’t get all five-stars,” Kiffin continued. “Just being around him, I sat next to him every day in staff meetings, he’s extremely intelligent, high school coaches love him — which will go a long ways in recruiting.

“Tennessee is going to be back really soon.”

For all the Tennessee fans that may dislike most everything about Kiffin, they probably can’t find fault in the comments he made about the new face of the Volunteer program.
