Auburn’s spring camp will come to a conclusion this Saturday with the annual A-Day spring game. The event should provide fans an interesting look at the program’s quarterback situation behind Jarrett Stidham, as Gus Malzahn announced Thursday evening that the team’s starting quarterback will sit out the scrimmage.

Here’s what the Auburn coach had to say about Stidham’s availability in the game during his recent media availability.

“We’ll start out with a 10 minute 7-on-7, Jarrett Stidham will be a part of that — he will not be a part of the actual scrimmage,” Malzahn revealed.

As for the format of the game, Malzahn said the setup will be the same as it has been in year’s past under in his tenure.

“We’ll go 1’s on 2’s, exactly like we’ve done before, it will be the same format as far as that and as far as the kicking game and everything that goes with that,” he continued.

Malzahn also provided an injury update and announced Devan Barrett will shift outside to receiver following the injuries the team has experienced at the position:

“Kaleb Kim had an injury last week, he will not participate but he will be back in a short period of time,” Malzahn said. “Devan Barrett will play some wide receiver but he will also play some running back. Devan is a real versatile guy and he’s the type where you need to try and find ways to get him the ball. With a couple of the injuries we’ve had a wide receiver, we moved him out there.”

As for what the Auburn coach is looking for, Malzahn said nearly every spring a seems to emerge. Which player that will be is something that seems to interest him the most.

“Every spring there’s been somebody step up and make some plays that maybe they hadn’t made up to this point,” he continued. “There’s nothing better than evaluating your players, not only in a scrimmage but even in front of your crowd. There’s just something to being out there in front of the crowd. Some guys seize the moment.”

To find out which player that will be this year, you won’t have to wait much longer.

Auburn’s spring game is set to begin at 4 p.m. ET/ 3 p.m. CT and will be televised on the SEC Network.
