One of Ole Miss’ most gifted receivers isn’t backing down from what he believes the Rebel offense is capable of in Year 2 of Phil Longo’s offense.

Following his stellar performance in the Grove Bowl, he had three catches for 64 yards and two touchdowns, redshirt sophomore D.K. Metcalf indicated his explosive performance was just the start of what’s to come in Oxford in 2018. During his post-game media availability, posted on YouTube by David Johnson, Metcalf didn’t hesitate when asked just how good the Rebel offense can be next season.

“Best in the nation,” Metcalf answered. “We’re trying to establish a run game and I think we did a pretty good job of that this spring. Everybody knows we can throw the ball all around. We have a chance to be real special.”

Metcalf also expressed his opinion that Ole Miss’ quarterback, Jordan Ta’amu, is as good as QB out there.

“Jordan is becoming his own person right now, being a leader and a quarterback that can hang with anybody,” Metcalf continued.

The progression of the team’s running backs was something starting quarterback Ta’amu also touched on during his media availability.

“Our running backs are tremendous, all of them,” Ta’amu said. “They love to compete and they’re hard runners. I felt like they did good out there and this whole spring they’ve shown that they can play.”

As for how his personal progression has gone this spring, this is, after all, Ta’amu’s first spring taking the majority of the first-team reps in practice, he gave an answer that a leader should give.

“I felt like our offense as a whole progressed throughout the whole spring, and it showed out there in the spring game,” Ta’amu answered.
