The South Carolina Gamecocks finished second in the SEC East last year and are expected by many to finish at least that high again in 2018.

Coach Will Muschamp knows his program is in a good place, but also acknowledges that things could be even better.

Speaking at an Anderson County Gamecock Club meeting on Wednesday, Muschamp said it’s important that Gamecock fans don’t settle for the way things are now (via 247Sports):

“I don’t want our fan base to confuse progress with accomplishment,” Muschamp said. “We haven’t accomplished anything. We have made progress, but we have to continue to move forward. I’m really excited about the vision and direction of our program, from our administration to our staff to our players.”

The Gamecocks have some work to do before they can compete with the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC East, but they could pull off a big upset in Week 2 when the Dawgs come to town.

If they can do that, the power dynamic in the East could quickly shift.
