When Ole Miss WR A.J. Brown is on the field, there’s a good chance he’s making plays.

Conventional stats are enough for most SEC fans to recognize Brown as an elite wideout. In 2017, he led the SEC in touchdown catches (11), total receiving yards (1,252) and receiving yards per game (104.3). Pro Football Focus, however, decided to dig deeper. Spoiler alert – the advanced compliment Brown, too.

PFF found that Brown averaged 3.19 yards per route run. In other words, there aren’t many times A.J. Brown is on the field without touching the ball.

Brown’s yards per route numbers are best in the SEC among returning wideouts, topping Emmanuel Hall (Missouri), Kalija Lipscomb (Vanderbilt), Mecole Hardman (Georgia) and Ryan Davis (Auburn). Interestingly enough, Davis had more receptions than Brown in 2017 (84 to 75), but for fewer yards (1,252 to 815).
