Alabama didn’t have to travel very far to find its latest kicker commit as Will Reichard is a rising senior at in-state program Hoover High School.

In an interesting note, Reichard has another connection to the Alabama football program, he’s learned under Leigh Tiffin. Tiffin kicked in Tuscaloosa from 2006 to 2009 and left as the school’s all-time leading scorer. That’s a high benchmark for Reichard but he’s already taken lessons from the man who did it to help him when he arrives in Tuscaloosa.

“One of my kicking coaches was Leigh Tiffin, and one of the best pieces of advice he ever gave was that being a kicker is like being an assassin: You only get one shot,” Reichard said to Josh Bean of AL.com. “So, I keep that with me. Every time I go to a game, I know I have to put all my focus into this kick because it might be the only one I get all game. So, I guess having that in the back of my mind has helped me a lot.”

Reichard is capable of handling all the specialist roles at the collegiate level, as he does for Hoover, but he says he will focus on only two duties moving forward.

“I want to focus on my place-kicking and kickoffs, but if they need me to punt,” Reichard added. “I’d come in and do it. Whatever I can do to help the team is what I’ll do.”

He also plans to serve as a peer recruiter for the Crimson Tide. If you were unaware, one of the nation’s top prospects just happens to be Reichard’s teammate at Hoover, receiver George Pickens. He’s been on Alabama’s radar for some time but that hasn’t stopped the talented receiver from committing to Auburn.

So will Reichard attempt to lure him to the Tide?

“For sure, that’s already started,” he answered.

Alabama fans have got to love to hear that. Who knows, Reichard may score a win over Auburn before he even suits up for the Alabama program.
