If a quarterback does decide to leave Alabama’s roster before the 2018 season arrives, depth looked to be a real concern for the upcoming season. That issue was quickly put to rest by the Crimson Tide as Arkansas State pledge Layne Hatcher flipped his commitment before enrolling with the school.

Due to the fact Hatcher had not signed with Arkansas State, he was still able to flip his commitment to Alabama for the 2018 recruiting cycle. That’s exactly what he did last week, to the chagrin of the Arkansas State staff.

Judging by his stats, Hatcher looks to have some potential. The Arkansas high school QB threw for 15,483 yards and 185 touchdowns during his prep career. As a senior, he threw for 66 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

During his appearance in Destin for the 2018 SEC Spring Meetings, Saban was asked about his program’s addition of Hatcher. Although, at first, it appeared Saban was not familiar with the name.
