After being in the SEC for 15 seasons, Miami coach Mark Richt knows LSU regularly signs talented athletes.

At ACC Media Days, Richt visited with ESPNU to talk about his Hurricanes’ Week 1 showdown with LSU. The former Georgia coach (2001-15) explained he’s not intimidated by the Xs and Os battle, but his concern is with the talent on the Tigers roster.

“The problem is not the scheme, the problem is the dudes,” Richt said in reference to the talent at LSU. “It’s the dudes, not the coaches. The coaches can get the dudes, they’re the smart ones.”

Like many Tigers fans, Richt will also be keeping an eye on the quarterback competition in Baton Rouge. He’s prepared to scheme for a Steve Ensminger offense, but the Tigers newest graduate transfer could provide an x-factor.

“You’ve got to look at what at Coach Ensminger has done in the past… Is it going to be Joe Burrow or one of their current players (starting at QB)?”

Burrow was the standout of Ohio State’s spring game, but opted to transfer into a more favorable quarterback competition after graduating.

The Tigers and Hurricanes face off on Sunday Sept. 2 in Dallas.
