Former Georgia LB Roquan Smith is now the only first-round pick yet to sign with his team.

The Chicago Bears took the ex-Bulldog with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, but have yet to get a contract signed for the talented linebacker.

As the Bears prepare for their first preseason game on Thursday night, GM Ryan Pace joined the team’s pregame radio broadcast and said there’s nothing new to report (via Pro Football Talk):

“There are really no new developments to this point. It’s something that we’re working through and obviously I feel like a broken record here but we want him to be here but it’s just part of the process,” Pace said.

Pace added that he doesn’t want to say too much in the media, as that will only complicate matters:

“I hope people can respect it,” Pace said. “I definitely appreciate the questions and understand the questions, but out of respect to the player and the agent it is a sensitive topic and I think it’s best if we just keep that behind the scenes.”

Smith is missing valuable preseason reps, so perhaps his absence Thursday night will spark both sides to get a deal done this week.
