The Clemson Tigers recently scheduled a home-and-home series with the LSU Tigers for the 2025 and 2026 seasons, but coach Dabo Swinney would like to see a different SEC team on Clemson’s schedule.

Clemson already has an annual rivalry with in-state foe South Carolina, but there are apparently also ongoing discussions with Georgia for a series.

During a recent appearance on ESPNU Radio on SiriusXM, Swinney said that, if it were up to him, the Tigers would play the Bulldogs every year:

“If it was up to me, we’d play Georgia every year,” he says. “It sure would make our schedule a lot easier. Just simply because, we have to go all the way out to College Station this year, they’re going to come all the way here. You know, me growing up in Alabama, I always watched Clemson-Georgia. That was just one of those games. And you know, I mean, we’re like Cuba, you know? It’s like 90 miles apart or something here. We’re not that far, you know?

“I mean, you know, we’re just right down the road. I mean, nobody gets excited about playing Georgia. You get your butt beat when you play them. They’re a great program, but if we’re going to go play somebody every year, to me, I think it would be great for fans of Clemson and Georgia to know you’re going to have that game every year, along with South Carolina, to really have a great schedule. It’d be just easy for the fans to travel and stuff.

“You know, I don’t know if it’ll come back. I’m all for it. I don’t know if they’ll ever work it out or not.”

With Swinney on board, it’ll be interesting to see if a deal gets done sooner rather than later. And, that begs the question — will it be a simple home-and-home deal, or will it be an extended rivalry?
