LSU’s kickoff is almost a week away. With game-week practice prep about to start, Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron is expected to name either Ohio State graduate transfer Joe Burrow or sophomore Myles Brennan as his starting quarterback to face the Miami Hurricanes next week in Dallas.

When Orgeron met with the media this week, he shared some of what will go into making the decision.

“It’s been so close that it will not be obvious,” Orgeron told reporters. “We can go with either quarterback, and we wouldn’t be wrong. Both of them have been fantastic. Both of them have been practicing with the first team. But if one is named the starter on Sunday, obviously, he’ll take all the first team reps.”

Tigers beat reporter Glenn Guilbeau notes that LSU’s Saturday scrimmage was only a walk-through and is unlikely to have much of an impact on which signal-caller gets the nod.

“We’re going to sit down and talk on Sunday and see if it’s the right thing to do,” Orgeron said.

“If it’s a clear winner, we’ll announce it,” the head coach added. “I think that would probably be the best thing for the team, but we haven’t made that final decision yet. The team wants to know who the starter is, but it is so close that possibly two guys could play. If we name one starter, and he’s having a great game, obviously, you keep him in. If he’s not doing the things that we expect him to do, we have another guy who can go in there and play. So we’re going to keep the other guy alive.”

LSU and Miami are set to kickoff at 7:30 p.m. on ABC Sept. 2 from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys.
