Well, that’s certainly not how Jeremy Pruitt could have imagined his first league game going.

If you are a Tennessee fan and missed the game, you didn’t miss much. Florida took control of the game early and was never threatened in this one thanks to six (!) turnovers by the Vols — most of which were unforced errors.

Immediately after the game, Pruitt met with the media to discuss the 47-21 result from Neyland Stadium. Here are the highlights of what Pruitt had to say.

opening statement:

“First of all, you have to give Coach Mullen and his staff a ton of credit, created a bunch of turnovers. They executed, and that’s one me.. You have to give credit to Florida.

on turnovers:

“Well, you know, when you continue to let people run and hit the QB, eventually he’s going to drop the ball…We got a bad snap in the red area, we had two in the red zone… We need to be in the plus-four to give ourselves a chance to win.”

on Jarret Guarantano’s injury:

“I think he’s going to be fine, he’s tough. I knew that when I came here. He’s learning on the go, he’s maturing. He’s a guy that’s going to be a really good quarterback one day. I like the way he’s growing into it but we have to give the guy a chance a little bit, he can’t take as many hits when he’s not looking. I thought he got rid of the ball on time.”

on struggles of the OL:

“Sometimes when it comes to QB getting hit, it’s not just the OL. It’s tight ends, it’s backs…

“We got hit in the back, that had nothing to do with the OL.”

on if Tennessee lost the battle at the line of scrimmage:

“Yeah, absolutely. Too much push up front… Yeah, that adds up over the game.”

following the week of prep, did you see this coming?

“Did it surprise me? It’s the best warm up that we’ve had, this isn’t the same team that went out in Charlotte…

on Quart’e Sapp leaving the field:

“Since I’ve been here, Quart’e has been a very good ambassador for the game, done everything we’ve asked him to do. He left the field during the game because he wouldn’t go into the game when he was asked to go in. I don’t know how things were done before but when you tell someone to go in, they refuse to go in, we aren’t going to do that around here. I asked him to leave. He didn’t leave on his own, I asked him to leave.”

Is he still on the team?

“Well, I don’t think right now is the time to discuss that but to me, there’s no secrets. It is what it is.”
