Auburn picked up a win against division rival Arkansas Saturday, defeating the Razorbacks 34-3. The bigger Week 5 story regarding the Tigers, however, was likely that three players decided to leave the team in the days leading up to the game.

TE Jalen Harris was the first Tigers player to depart, sharing a note on social media Wednesday. On Thursday brothers WR Nate Craig-Myers and DB Jayvaughn Myers also decided to transfer.

Despite the turmoil, Gus Malzahn’s squad managed to take care of business against the Hogs. After the game, players were asked about the multiple transfers.

“It was definitely tough,” WR Ryan Davis said, per Brandon Marcello of Auburn Undercover. “Honestly those are guys that definitely helped the team, guys we love, guys that are well liked around Auburn. I definitely wish the best for all three of those guys. I have a great relationship with all three. … They had to do what’s best for them and I wish them nothing the best for them.”

Davis, a senior, is focused on finishing his career at Auburn. Many members of the media have said that the increase in in-season interceptions is a product of the new transfer rule, allowing players to play in up to four games and redshirt (avoid using one of four seasons of eligibility in a five-year period).

Redshirt freshman RB JaTarvious Whitlow admitted it’s hard to know what teammates might be thinking about their future.

“Hey, you never know what the next man is thinking,” Whitlow told Marcello. “I just hope everyone is on one accord and is into this year.”
