You know things aren’t going well when the leader of a football program has to proclaim he will be back next season. That’s something Gus Malzahn stated during his Tuesday press conference following Auburn’s 27-10 loss to Georgia.

Beyond that, Malzahn was asked to provide the latest injury report for his team heading into the Liberty game, the offensive gameplan against Georgia, the continued failure of his team’s running game, why he’s so confident in his offense and if any juniors planned to partake in Senior Day this weekend.

  • injury update: Nick Coe is out, don’t know anything past this week (wrist), Jabari Davis will be day-to-day
  • on the lack of deep passes vs. UGA: Our plan was solid, there were a couple, second and shorts were we didn’t convert. They do a good job of keeping things in front of them. We were 3 for 13 on third down, that was our Achilles heel
  • can the run be saved? We did some good things, that was a very good run defense. We will continue to do that, We are progressing up front
  • on the issue of Auburn’s D allowing running yards: The simplest way to put it is 3rd down. We’ve had issues getting off the field on 3rd down, it’s been opening us up to more snaps on the field
  • on the AD’s recent statement regarding his status, how “iron-clad” is that? There’s no doubt. I’ll be the coach next season and we’re going to turn this thing around.
  • on the turnover of his roster in recent seasons: I think it goes back to what I said earlier, the youth we have on offense is exciting. I think we’ll have a great defense again next season and our special teams have improved greatly next season.
  • on his confidence regarding the offense next season: We have the majority of our guys coming back, we have had some growing pains this season. No matter who the quarterback, we’re going to be better on offense.
  • any juniors that will go thru Senior Day festivities? Jaunta’vius Johnson, he hasn’t been able to play for us much this season but he’s a great player.
