When he agreed to be Chad Morris’s defensive coordinator at Arkansas, John Chavis was given an option in his contract to add two years onto his deal.

He only had to decide what he wanted to do by Dec. 1, and it appears he’s reached an early decision.

As you can see below, WholeHogSports.com is reporting that Chavis has exercised his extension and will remain with the Razorbacks through 2020:

Per the report, which can be read here, Chavis had until Dec. 1 to decide his future:

Chavis, 62, had the option to extend his contract by two seasons if he requested it in writing prior to Dec. 1. On Nov. 21, Chavis wrote to Arkansas athletics director Hunter Yurachek, stating his intent to remain on staff, according to a letter obtained by WholeHogSports through an open records request.

“I look forward to continuing my work with the University of Arkansas football program,” Chavis wrote.

According to a contract that Chavis signed in January, his salary will increase from $995,000 annually to $1.5 million beginning March 1, 2019.

The Hogs had an up-and-down year defensively, but as some of Chavis’s recruits start entering the mix, it’ll be interesting to see how the Razorbacks perform on that side of the ball.
