Nick Saban’s army of assistant coaches in Tuscaloosa has reportedly just lost a man to professional football.

If the name Alex Mortensen doesn’t ring any bells, his father’s may, he is well-known ESPN NFL insider Chris Mortensen. According to Bruce Feldman of The Athletic, Alex is taking a job with Birmingham’s new professional football team, the Iron.

The Iron compete in the new spring league called the Alliance of American Football league.

Mortensen is a graduate of Alabama and landed a role as a GA on Saban’s staff five years ago. He’s managed to stay on the staff since that time, most recently working with the Crimson Tide’s offense. He also has experience working in the NFL as he briefly spent time with the Rams before they moved to Los Angeles.
