If Dana Holgorsen is looking for a championship pedigree for his first Houston staff, he is making a wise choice in the hire of Zac Etheridge.

Etheridge, a team captain on Auburn’s 2010 BCS National Championship team, coached cornerbacks for Louisiana last season. Now reports indicate he is headed to Houston to join Holgorsen’s coaching staff. His Louisiana coaching bio has since been removed by the team’s official website.

News of Etheridge’s hire at Houston was first reported by Bruce Feldman of The Athletic. Feldman also notes Etheridge is rated as the Sun Belt’s No. 1 recruiter by 247Sports.

A former safety at Auburn, Etheridge started at defensive back for four seasons with the Tigers and received some acclaim as a Freshman All-American following the conclusion of the 2007 season. During his coaching career, Etheridge has worked under the likes of Bill O’Brien and former Alabama assistant Billy Napier.
