Charlton Warren’s decision to leave Gainesville for Athens came with a big pay raise.

Georgia’s new defensive backs coach is scheduled to make $600,000 annually for three seasons in Athens. Warren’s Florida contract paid him $200,000 in 2018. The Gators had signed Warren to a two-year contract during the previous offseason.

It should be noted that Tennessee was still paying Warren to coach in 2018, despite the fact he was essentially coaching against them. That was due to the fact Tennessee released Warren following the dismissal of Butch Jones. Due to the nature of his Tennessee contract, Warren was required to be paid the difference in what he was scheduled to make and what his next job paid him.

If you missed it upon his hiring in Athens, Kirby Smart issued the following statement on Warren’s hire.

“Charlton is from Atlanta and has a wide range of experience coaching defensive football at several universities and conferences around the country. His entire coaching career has been on the defensive side of the ball and especially defensive backs. He has developed an outstanding record and reputation in the coaching profession and he’ll bring great knowledge and energy to our staff.”

The two coaches have not previously worked together but have recruited against one another for several years in the SEC East.
