Around this time last year, Jeremy Pruitt interviewed ASA College head coach Joe Osovet for a position on Tennessee’s full-time coaching staff. While Osovet was not hired for that specific role, Pruitt and his offensive coaches were so impressed with Osovet they offered him an analyst position on Rocky Top.

Fast forward a year and Tennessee is promoting Osovet to Director of Program Development, the highest off-the-field role currently at Tennessee, a source close to the situation tells SDS. This news was first reported by Bruce Feldman of The Athletic.

Before coming to Tennessee, Osovet’s ASA College team went 9-1 in his second season leading the program, which included the team scoring over 40 points per game and five games in which the team scored 75 points or more.

Since arriving at Tennessee, Osovet has led the charge in the program’s recruiting of many junior college prospects and played a key role in landing a commitment from the program’s latest 2020 pledge, which came from four-star high school prospect, Dominic Bailey of Baltimore. His reputation as an outstanding recruiter, something Pruitt values in his assistants, has quickly developed in Knoxville.

That should come as no surprise to those that know Osovet’s history as 24 of his former ASA College players landed on Division 1 rosters following the 2018 season.

Tennessee’s new Director of Program Development has turned down multiple G5 positions this offseason to remain in Knoxville, according to a source, as Osovet continues to work toward landing an on-the-field position under Pruitt in the future.
