At the 2019 NFL Combine, Mississippi State EDGE Montez Sweat was one of the breakout performers, working his way into consideration for a top-5 pick.

However, on Sunday, it was reported by NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport that doctors at the Combine found a pre-existing heart condition.

Rapoport says doctors took a longer look at Sweat because of the pre-existing condition:

Multiple sources say that combine doctors took a thorough look at Sweat because of a pre-existing heart condition. This was not publicly known before Indy.

Sweat’s agents issued a statement after the report came out, saying the former Bulldog has been medically cleared at every level he’s been at:

“Because of privacy issues we are not allowed to comment specifically. But I will tell you that this is not news. Montez is the same person that was medically cleared to play and dominate the SEC, the Senior Bowl, and the NFL combine. No change in health and no change in domination!”

That’s good news, but it’s something NFL teams will definitely want to monitor ahead of the draft in April.
