With Marvin Menzies out as head coach of UNLV, the coaching rumors out of Las Vegas have begun to heat up. Among the early names being mentioned not only to be interested in the job, but some consider the frontrunner for the position, is none other than South Carolina’s Frank Martin.

So much so, that a report from Watch Stadium’s college basketball insider Jeff Goodman predicts Martin to take the UNLV job.

Not so fast, according to Martin.

During his end of the season press conference from Columbia on Tuesday, Martin was asked point blank regarding his interest in the open UNLV coaching position. According to Martin, there is no truth to the speculation.

“I can tell you UNLV has not spoken to me, UNLV has not spoken to my agent, I haven’t had third-party conversations. I got no idea where that came from,” Martin said, according to David Cloninger of the Post and Courier.

In addition to that comment, Martin noted that his wife was upset with him upon his return home from the 2019 SEC Tournament from Nashville when she heard about the rumors. Understandably, Martin said he would never consider such a move without letting her know first.

“I wouldn’t do that without including her,” Martin said during the press conference, according to Mike Uva of WACH FOX in Columbia.

Those are some strong denials from the Gamecock coach but until UNLV officially hires a coach, South Carolina fans may have to sweat it out as these things can change in a hurry. Just ask any Miami Dolphin fan after Nick Saban famously said he would not be leaving for Alabama.
