Tennessee signed arguably the nation’s best offensive line class in the 2019 recruiting cycle and it appears the Vols may not be done adding big bodies to the program’s O-line this offseason.

This time, however, the player Tennessee is hoping to add to its offensive line has plenty of experience playing at the collegiate level as Marshall graduate transfer Alex Locklear is “likely” to join Jeremy Pruitt’s program after landing a scholarship offer from the Vols, according to Grant Traylor of the Herald-Dispatch out of Huntington, W. Va.

The fact that Tennessee is currently looking to add depth and experience to its offensive line isn’t the only appeal Alex Locklear, his brother Riley Locklear is currently a junior offensive lineman for the Vols. According to Traylor, Alex Locklear is on path to graduate from Marshall in May with the intention of joining the Tennessee program after earning his undergraduate degree.

During his Marshall career, the 6-foot-5, 340-pound Locklear has appeared in 35 games for the Thundering Hurd. He was a three-star prospect coming out of Spring Valley High School in Huntington and redshirted his first season at Marshall before hitting the field in at least 10 games in each of his three seasons at the school.

The Vols are expected to lose rising senior Drew Richmond, who is currently listed in the NCAA transfer portal, while Chance Hall, Devante Brooks and Tanner Antonutti were all forced to medically retire from the team this offseason. Star junior Trey Smith’s status is also medically in limbo at this time.

While Tennessee is losing only one starting offensive lineman from its end of the season depth chart, the program is still in need of building up and developing its depth on the line of scrimmage heading into the 2019 campaign, which should potentially give Locklear an opportunity to finish his college career in a big way next season for the Vols.
