Interestingly enough, even though they each have longstanding ties to Louisiana and LSU, Ed Orgeron says he never met Scott Woodward until recently. In addition to that revelation, Orgeron said he never spoke at length to Woodward until Tuesday.

Considering Woodward was officially announced as the school’s new AD last week, that’s interesting but considering it was a holiday weekend, it does add up. Either way, Coach O was asked to share his initial impression of Woodward immediately following the AD’s introductory press conference in Baton Rouge on Tuesday.

“I’m excited about Scott, I think he had a great interview here. Met him today, great guy, personable, looking forward to working with him,” Orgeron said in a video posted to YouTube by LSU Tiger TV.

While the two men may have not met until now, one thing the two Louisiana natives share is incredible expectations for LSU’s athletic programs. Following Woodward’s presser, in which he expressed his desire to bring championships to Baton Rouge, Orgeron was asked to respond to that comment.

“That’s what we are here for, to win championships,” Orgeron replied. “We know the expectations at LSU and I knew that when I got hired.”

While it’s very early in their relationship, Coach O seems to believe things have started off on the right foot.

“He’s been supportive, he’s going to be supportive but we have to win here at LSU, that’s what other coaches have to do,” Orgeron concluded.

Truer words have never been spoken but we all know football is the sport that drives all major college athletic programs, meaning Orgeron has to keep things moving in the right direction to push the school’s athletic department moving forward. While many have already jumped to the conclusion that Woodward may be eager to replace Orgeron in the future, as long as the Tigers keep winning on the field, everything else in Baton Rouge will continue to progress as long as these two work together in harmony.
