Looks like Amir Abdur-Rahim has some explaining to do.

Abdur-Rahim was recently named the new head coach at Kennesaw State but back in 2017, he was an assistant coach at Texas A&M. Now he has become the latest in a long line of coaches to be brought up in the FBI’s investigation into the state of corruption in college athletics.

If you were unaware, the FBI’s case against several coaches is currently being heard in court. Video and audio wiretaps are among the items of evidence the FBI has in this case and several reporters in attendance have been busy tweeting out information regarding what was recorded, and is now being presented in court, by the FBI.

The latest nugget in the case involves Abdur-Rahim during his time in College Station. Back in 2017, Abdur-Rahim allegedly met with former agent Christian Dawkins (who has since been convicted in court following his involvement in paying athletes) and an undercover FBI agent to discuss payments sent to former Texas A&M basketball player Robert Williams. According to Matt Norlander of CBS Sports, who tweeted out this information, Abdur-Rahim allegedly bought shoes at The Cosmopolitan in Vegas and stuffed them with $11,000 before sending them to Williams.

According to Norlander, The Cosmopolitan was bugged by the FBI. The video survivance captured by the FBI is being used in this case.

If this story is true, you have to at least hand it to Abdur-Rahim for finding a creative way to sent players money. While tracking information may be available for the shoes, there won’t be any record of a cash payment hidden in the shoes.

Williams ended up playing two seasons at Texas A&M before leaving for the NBA. During his playing career in College Station, he was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team, All-SEC Defensive Team and two-time SEC Defensive Player of the Year.
