If Tennessee fans don’t know the name Elijah Simmons just yet, they will soon enough.

In fact, if you happened to watch the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, you likely saw big No. 72 from Pearl Cohn High School on the stage as NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced the Titans first selection. He was pretty hard to miss.

Simmons is listed as a 6-foot, 350-pound prospect according to his 247Sports profile page. The high school senior signed with Tennessee in the 2019 recruiting cycle and is set to enroll in Knoxville this summer.

The NFL called up the high school players to honor the local football being played in Nashville leading up to the Titans selection but it wasn’t just Tennessee fans that noted Simmons was standing next to the NFL commissioner. Houston Texans star JJ Watt sent out his thoughts after seeing the man-child appear on national television.

Simmons was recently featured by Tennessee in a spring game video. While the Volunteers may have been lacking some size up front on defense last season, Simmons is set to fix that issue upon his arrival in the coming weeks. Who knows, if Simmons performs well enough in Jeremy Pruitt’s defense during his Tennessee career, he could be making another trip to the NFL Draft in three to four years.
