The Kentucky Wildcats didn’t have the best 2019 season, failing to make the SEC Baseball Tournament.

However, LHP Zack Thompson still showed he was one of the nation’s best college pitchers, and he ended up being a first-round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft on Monday night.

With the No. 19 overall pick in the draft, the St. Louis Cardinals chose Thompson and will assign him to one of their minor-league squads.

Thompson made 14 starts for the Wildcats in 2019, going 6-1 with a 2.40 ERA and 130 strikeouts in only 90 innings pitched.

How long it takes him to reach the majors remains to be seen, but he’s landing with an organization that consistently competes for playoff spots.
