The Alabama Crimson Tide have been in every single College Football Playoff field since it started following the 2014 season, with Georgia joining them in the final four two years ago.

No, the Tide haven’t won the SEC title in each of those seasons, but they have been one of the most dominant teams in the nation, along with Clemson.

Earlier this week, SEC Network host Paul Finebaum called the Alabama-LSU game “unwatchable,” and in an appearance on 105.5 WNSP’s “The Opening Kickoff” on Tuesday, he also said the Iron Bowl rivalry doesn’t get as much hype these days (via AL.com):

“In June, we’re talking about the Iron Bowl?” Finebaum said. “I don’t really hear anybody talking about that. The LSU game has been promoted as the biggest game on Alabama’s schedule since 2011. That game doesn’t measure up. We hype that game every year. We get a pretty similar result.”

So, who is Alabama’s biggest SEC rival? It’s a team that isn’t on their regular season schedule, according to Finebaum, but one they’ve met in the past two postseasons:

“It’s probably Georgia in the SEC because there is so much conversation about (Georgia coach Kirby) Smart and the fact that he coached so long and successfully under Nick Saban,” Finebaum explained. “And the fact that those two games have been two of the most epic Alabama football games.

“That’s as good an answer I can come up with. Alabama’s left everyone else in the dust.”

Will both the Bulldogs and Tide make it to Atlanta this year? It sure seems that way now, but things can change in a hurry once games begin.
