Kentucky may have gotten some bad news on the injury front this week when the team announced junior safety Davonte Robinson would miss the upcoming season following a recent injury leading up to the start of training camp but not all the injury news from Lexington this week is bad.

The program’s 2019 quarterback signee, Nik Scalzo, announced he has been cleared to participate in Kentucky’s upcoming camp. If you were unaware, the Florida native tore his ACL during his senior season at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale. There was some concern he may not be available at the start of the season but that obviously won’t be the case now.

This is great news on multiple fronts as Kentucky would have been down to only three scholarship quarterbacks in camp if Scalzo would have not been able to compete in camp. Considering Terry Wilson was injured last season and projected backup quarterback Gunnar Hoak left the program this offseason, there’s a real need for the Wildcats to develop QB depth behind Wilson during camp.

Scalzo was ranked as a three-star prospect and the No. 28 dual-threat quarterback in the nation for the 2019 recruiting cycle by 247Sports Composite Rankings.
