Former Alabama QB Jalen Hurts transferred to Oklahoma this offseason, and was just named the Sooners’ starter this week.

Now, he’ll get to work leading the team that is ranked No. 4 in the country in the preseason AP Poll. His goal is to get the Sooners back to the College Football Playoff.

On Monday, USA TODAY columnist George Schroeder wrote a column about Hurts and his motivations for this year. In it, former Alabama OC (and current Maryland head coach) Mike Locksley said he thinks Hurts would love to play the Crimson Tide again:

“I’m sure in the back of Jalen’s mind, he would like to see the Oklahoma-Alabama matchup happen,” says Maryland coach Mike Locksley, who was Alabama’s offensive coordinator in 2018 – and who badly wanted Hurts to transfer to Maryland. “I think that came into play when he made the decision to go there.”

Hurts follows in the footsteps of two Heisman Trophy winners in Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray. If he comes close to matching those star quarterbacks’ production, the Sooners could face down the Tide in the Playoff once again.
