For the first time since 1988, Tennessee has started a season with an 0-2 record.

While the opening-season loss to Georgia State was embarrassing, the team’s latest loss to BYU came after leading for the vast majority of the game and being up three points with only seconds remaining with the Cougars having to drive the length of the field.

BYU, however, did just that and sent the game to overtime before beating the Vols 29-26 in double overtime.

Following the latest Tennessee disaster, Jeremy Pruitt was searching for answers in his postgame press conference.

On how Tennessee lost this game:

“It’s hard to figure out how you lose that game, then you start thinking about it – there’s two fourth and ones in the game that we don’t get. We had two guys running wide open before the half for touchdowns that we don’t hit. We end up settling for a field goal. Turn the ball over in the red area, don’t get any turnovers. We’ve got one turnover in two weeks. Give up a 70-yard play with 16 seconds left on the clock. That’s hard to figure that one out.”

on his players’ fight in the game:

“One thing I will say, there were guys fighting out there, on both sides of the ball. It was a hell of a game, a competitive game – and we didn’t make the breaks at the end.”

on what defense Tennessee was in on BYU’s 64-yard reception that set up the game-tying field goal:

“The one that you don’t throw it for 75 yards.”
