A veteran Tennessee running back is using the updated redshirt rules to his advantage. Senior Carlin Fils-aime will redshirt for 2019 and return to the Volunteers as a fifth-year senior in 2020, UT coach Jeremy Pruitt announced at his Wednesday post-practice press conference.

In April, Pruitt revealed that Fils-aime would be having a procedure on his leg and miss spring practice, returning to the team in July. This season, Fils-aime has appeared in just three games, playing on special teams. The redshirt policy implemented for the 2018 season allows players to play in up to four games and still apply the one-time redshirt to the season. UT has two regular-season games remaining against Missouri (Saturday) and Vanderbilt (Nov. 30). If the Volunteers win at least one of those games, they will be eligible to play in a bowl game.

Since joining Tennessee in 2016, Fils-aime has logged 52 carries for 309 yards and 5 rushing touchdowns along with 4 receptions for 18 yards.
