For Bo Nix, it has been an up-and-down freshman season. Nix’s numbers have varied throughout the year, often depending on whether the Tigers were at home or on the road and whether they were playing a ranked or unranked opponent – which is to be expected from a true freshman starting quarterback. His coach, Gus Malzahn, is confident that Nix has a “super future” ahead of him on The Plains.

“He’s a true freshman and he’s learning against the top defenses in the country every week. He has a super future here at Auburn and I really believe he’ll win us a championship at Auburn,” Malzahn said on Thursday’s Tiger Talk, per Auburn Gold Mine. “He has really good instincts.”

Through 10 games, Nix is 170-of-298 passing (57 completion percentage) for 2,043 yards, 13 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. His average of 204.3 passing yards per game ranks No. 7 in the SEC.

Nix has also recorded 83 rushes (including sacks) for 256 net yards and 6 touchdowns. His most recent rushing TD was the first allowed by the Georgia defense all season.

Nix should be able to boost his numbers on Saturday when Auburn plays Samford. While not the same as an SEC Championship or national championship, Nix will have the chance to lead the Tigers to victory in the Iron Bowl on Nov. 30.
