The biggest question on Rocky Top at the moment is the status of Trey Smith. Will he stay for a senior season or will he declare early for the pros move on to the NFL?

We’ll have that answer soon as Tennessee just announced a press conference for the hulking offensive lineman.

According to Tennessee, Smith is set to meet with the media Thursday at 1 p.m. ET/Noon CT presumably to announce his decision on next season.

Smith signed with Tennessee out of Jackson, Tenn., as a five-star prospect and ESPN’s No. 1 overall prospect in the nation in the 2017 recruiting cycle. While those are lofty expectations to put on a young man, Smith has lived up to the hype and then some for the Volunteers. He was a Day One starter for the team and has been the program’s best offensive lineman for basically his entire playing career.

The Tennessee native was named a Freshman All-American in 2017 and was honored as a First-Team All-SEC Selection, as voted by the league’s coaches, in 2019.

Of course, Smith also has dealt with a serious medical issue during his time on Rocky Top as blood clots threatened to end his playing career but the lineman has not missed any time this season after his status being mostly up in the air leading up to the 2019 college football season. Not only did Smith play this year, he excelled once again and became the foundation of the team’s offensive line and arguably the entire offense.

Come Thursday, we’ll likely know if Smith plans on anchoring Tennessee’s offensive line one more year or takes his talents to the next level.
