Fans who follow recruiting are primarily focused on the final days of the 2020 cycle, but coaches are recruiting for both February’s 2020 National Signing Day and future classes. Dan Mullen’s staff added a Miami running back/wide receiver to the 2021 class on Wednesday.

Brashard Smith out of Miami Palmetto announced his pledge to the Gators via his Twitter account. Listed at over 5-8, 177 pounds, Smith is graded as an all-purpose back on the 247Sports Composite. A 3-star prospect, Smith is rated the No. 51 Florida-based recruit and No. 332 prospect overall nationally in the 2021 class.

During the 2019 offseason, Smith visited Miami, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida and Florida State. At that time, he told Luke Stampini of 247Sports that he was being recruited as a running back and slot receiver. It appears Florida wants Smith to play both positions.

“(Running backs) coach [Greg] Knox texts me every day to ask how I am doing and he told me I could play running back or I can move out into the slot there,” Smith told Swamp247’s Blake Alderman. “They want me to play both and I would like to play both.”

Smith had already collected 29 offers, including Alabama, Kentucky, LSU, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Smith gives UF nine verbal commitments for the 2021 class, which currently ranks No. 1 in the SEC and No. 4 nationally on the Composite. Check out Smith’s highlights and announcement below:
