Kentucky defensive lineman announces he has been granted 6th year of eligibility
Mark Stoops got some good news about his defensive troops for the upcoming 2020 season. Defensive lineman Phil Hoskins has been granted a sixth-year waiver by the NCAA, allowing him to play another year in Lexington.
Hoskins shared the big news with his Twitter followers on Wednesday afternoon:
“My 6th-year extension waiver has been approved and I am excited to announce my return,” Hoskins wrote. “Thank you @NCAA, our training staff and @ukcompliance for all of the work they did to get me this opportunity. Being injured has been very frustrating and draining but on the bright side I am also happy to say I’ll be graduating in May and I can’t wait to get back on the field this fall with my brothers! #BBN”
Entering the 2019 season, Hoskins was expected to be a key piece on the Wildcats defensive line. Hoskins missed UK’s first two games due to an academic-related suspension and then suffered a knee injury during warmups ahead of Kentucky’s third game.
In 2018, when Mark Stoops’ squad went 10-3, Hoskins appeared in every game, accumulating 21 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and three sacks, posting a career-high four tackles in the Texas A&M game.
It’s official… 🙏🏾🔱
