Thanks to the Early Signing Period, many of the nation’s elite high school prospects have already shut down their college recruitment and signed with the school of their choice. Having said that, there were still some elite playmakers out there for schools to land heading into National Signing Day and Florida native Malachi Wideman certainly fits that mold.

While he had been committed to Florida State dating back to the Willie Taggart era, the Venice, Fla., native was not expected to pick the Seminoles on National Signing Day and had narrowed his options down to Tennessee, Ole Miss and Oregon leading up to his decision.

During a National Signing Day ceremony at his Venice High School, Wideman announced he will play his college football on Rocky Top as a member of Jeremy Pruitt’s program.

The 6-foot-4, 197-pound Wideman is rated as a four-star prospect, the nation’s No. 22 receiver and No. 116 overall prospect in the 2020 recruiting cycle by 247Sports Composite Rankings. This news brings Tennessee closer to securing a top 10 recruiting class for the 2020 cycle after also landing Alabama native Dee Beckwith Wednesday morning. Tennessee also remains in the picture for five-star Texas running back, Zach Evans.
