When Will Muschamp was faced with the challenge of unexpectedly having to replace two members of his South Carolina staff, the Gamecock coach didn’t have to look very long or hard for their replacements.

In fact, Muschamp found both of his new coaches in the same football complex.

If you missed the news, South Carolina poached Tennessee’s Director of Player Personnel Drew Hughes to fill the open position left by Matt Lindsey — who left to become Lane Kiffin’s GM at Ole Miss. Muschamp then turned around and hired Tennessee defensive line coach Tracy Rocker, although it should be noted that Rocker’s contract was up in Knoxville by the time South Carolina extended an offer to the position coach.

Muschamp and Hughes previously worked together at Florida while the Gamecocks and Rocker agreed to a two-year contract with South Carolina giving the assistant a raise to join Muschamp’s staff.

While news of these moves broke early in the week, South Carolina officially announced the moves on Friday. Following the official word, Muschamp offered the following comments on his two new hires.

Muschamp on the hire of Drew Hughes:

“Drew and I have a history of working together and because of that, there will be a seamless transition for our staff moving forward. He is very organized and is an outstanding evaluator of talent. I’m excited to have Drew back on staff.”

Muschamp on the hire of Tracy Rocker:

“Tracy has great experience playing and coaching in the Southeastern Conference. I’ve tried to hire him before and am glad we were finally able to get him to Columbia and be a Gamecock. He’s had great success in this league in developing defensive linemen and has coached a lot of guys who have played in the NFL, which is the goal for many of our players.”
