LSU basketball fans will get to watch another O’Neal. Shareef O’Neal, son of Tigers legend Shaquille O’Neal, revealed Friday night that he’ll be transferring from UCLA to LSU.

Reporter Robin Lundberg didn’t appear to be expecting a decision when he asked O’Neal if he had decided on his transfer destination, as you can see in the Sports Illustrated video below:

Shareef is aware that LSU fans will have big expectations for an “O’Neal” sporting purple and gold on the hardwood, but he’s excited for the change of scenery.

“I’m going to LSU,” O’Neal said. “I’m following in some really big footsteps but I’m ready for it. It’s a great program. Louisiana is a different scene, I’ve been in LA most of my life but I’m ready for it.”

O’Neal, a freshman, announced his decision to transfer in January after not playing in multiple UCLA games. In the 13 games he played, averaged 2.2 points and 2.9 rebounds in 13 games this season. O’Neal missed UCLA’s 2018-19 seasons after undergoing surgery for a preexisting heart condition.

Shaquille O’Neal played at LSU from 1989-92 before going on to a Hall of Fame career in the NBA.
