Auburn made big news this offseason when it announced former Arkansas head coach Chad Morris had joined Gus Malzahn’s staff as offensive coordinator and now we know how much it cost the Tigers to add Morris to the staff.

After being scheduled to make $3.5 million to coach the Razorbacks in 2020, Morris will instead make $735,000 for the work he will do as Auburn’s offensive coordinator next season according to Brandon Marcello of 247Sports. Of course, Morris will still be paid by Arkansas in the form of buyout money, but the Razorbacks won’t have to pay Morris’ full buyout figure as the offensive coordinator will now have some of his checks from Arkansas offset by the money he will make at Auburn.

Morris’ deal wasn’t the only coordinator contract worked out at Auburn this offseason as Kevin Steele will be handsomely rewarded after running one of the SEC’s best defenses in 2019.

Auburn’s defensive coordinator made $1.9 million last season but after recently agreeing to a three-year contract extension, Steele will now make $2.5 million annually to coach Auburn’s defense.

Steele will be entering his fifth season with the Auburn program in 2020 and has coached defenses at Alabama, LSU, Florida State, Nebraska and the Carolina Panthers during his coaching career.
