The COVID-19 pandemic has forced the cancellation of nearly every major sporting event across the globe.

At Auburn (and throughout college sports), games have been canceled throughout the spring semester.

Recently Auburn AD Allen Greene spoke with reporters and said that, while the lack of sports is frustrating, it’s important to keep things in perspective (via 247Sports):

“In the moment you’re frustrated, you’re disappointed, you’re saddened,” Greene said. “Usually you have an idea of where your career is coming to an end. They had no idea and that part is very troubling as someone who has been in their position before. Having some power of perspective, if not playing a sport is the worst thing that happens in someone’s life, life is still going to be OK. It’s really, really hard to say that in the moment. It’s so hard to even say that with perspective sitting here right now, because I know how much work all of our student-athletes have put into their respective sport. And to have it stripped away, not even is it not ideal in that context and their world, it’s very cruel. And I recognize that. I wish we could have all come out with something different, but you have to, as the dust begins to settle and we begin to understand the gravity of this health crisis, sport is such a small microcosm of the big picture — and it’s going to take some longer to realize that than others.”

As Greene says, it’s tough to deal with right now, but when we realize the scope of the pandemic, perhaps our feelings will change.

Good perspective from the Auburn AD.
